Of course, with a massive catalog of CCG artwork to draw from that's not too surprising. I'd like to add that the books that AEG puts out to support this game are some of the nicest-looking on the market. Of course, once you've "locked down" a time period for your campaign and stick to it things get a little easier, but choosing that time period can be difficult. It makes it a somewhat daunting task for a GM, particularly when new players are involved. In most games this wouldn't be a big deal as you can just avoid dealing with the "storyline" characters, but in L5R knowing who's at the top of your Clan's "totem pole" is pretty important, and keeping abreast of current events is almost a necessity. Just when you think you have a handle on the major players and NPCs in the setting, most of them end up killed off or drastically altered in some fashion. Like you, though, I found the transition from "first edition" era to "more recent CCG" era a jarring one, and the setting continues to evolve still through the CCG storyline. I'm a big fan of almost everything AEG has done in the RPG market, but L5R remains my favorite setting of the bunch. ![]() ![]() Re: : Legend of the Five Rings Third Edition, reviewed by VeiĮxcellent Review.
